FIELD TRIPS, WORKSHOPS, & MEET-UPS
Port Angeles Architecture and Evening Photography - Trip Report By Ellen Bogenschutz
A lovely outing was enjoyed by the 10 participants of the September OPCC Field Trip led by Ellen Bogenschutz on Saturday September 17. It was a perfect evening; temperature was mild and so pleasant. After walking around the Promenade area on the water front, the group moved up to the center of the old downtown and, viewing Port Angeles through new eyes, found unique and interesting images to capture, including traditional architecture, quirky alleyways, intimate close ups.
The evening was awarded a beautiful pastel sunset that was exploited by all the photographers. Water reflections of tankers lit up, silhouette of the mill, and other typical waterfront subjects made for great images.
Please visit the OPCC website Field Trip Gallery to see photos shared by the group.

PSA Interclub Competition Update From Peggy McClure
Thank you to the members who submitted images for the PSA Interclub Competition and also to Witta Priester, our PSA Representative, for her assistance in putting together our entries.
A total of forty-six (46) images were submitted by sixteen different makers. We submitted the images to two different judges. The first judge was Leah Gray, a volunteer PSA judge who is a member of the Victoria Camera Club and an award winning photographer. The second judge was Mike Jensen one of our guest speakers this year, whose topic was “What are the judges looking for?” Mike is also a trained judge who has won many awards. The judges had two weeks to review, comment on the photos, and select their top twenty. Results were illuminating and confirmed what we should all already understand: that scores may vary significantly from one judge to another and to quote one of our judges it is “just their opinion.”
This PSA Interclub consists of three rounds, each round allows for six (6) images and those 6 must be from different makers for a total of eighteen (18) images. To begin the process of selecting the final images the judges scores were combined (maximum score was 40) and the images were sorted from highest to lowest score. To further refine the list only images had been selected by at least one judge for their top 20 list were selected. This left us with 22 images that had a score of 30 or above and appeared on at least one of the judge’s top 20 list.
To see the judges’ final 22 images click HERE.
The makers of the 22 images on the shortlist have been notified of the status of their images. They have received a copy of the judges’ comments and are being given the opportunity to further improve their image(s) based on those comments They will need to upload the new version of their image before the final 18 images are selected for submission. If you submitted an image and it was eliminated based on the criteria above and you would like to see the judges comments please send an email to me using the email address opcc.competition@gmail.com. I will then send you a copy of the judges’ comments for your photos.
Again thanks to all the members who entered their images. It is great to see the amazing work our members are doing and can provide inspiration to all of our members. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions please contact Peggy McClure, Competition Chair at opcc.competition@gmail.com. We are always looking for ways to improve and to encourage our members to fully participate in all of our activities.
Nature Photographers of the Pacific Northwest Fall Meeting and Photo Contest
