NEWS
OPCC Final Curtain Call Scheduled for Dec 2024
As most of you know by now, we are planning to close down OPCC at the end of December due to dwindling membership and a lack of volunteers. We are planning to merge with the Olympia Camera Club (OCC) next year and to share events with them. Our club will provide a free membership to OCC for any of our current members who would like to participate in the merged club for 2025. Those interested in joining the merged club should send an email to our membership chair at opcc4info@gmail.com.
We will likely have some assets left over at the end of the year, including money, equipment, and some miscellaneous items. Article X of our by-laws states:
Upon dissolution of OPCC, any remaining assets shall be distributed to one or more educational, charitable, scientific, or philanthropic organizations as determined by a majority vote of the remaining interested members.
Please send any ideas on how to distribute our assets to opccpres@gmail.com. Current suggestions include OCC, PSA, and St. Luke’s Church. We will vote on this at our final meeting in December. A letter containing all this information will also be sent out to all of our members in the near future.
WOW Competition
From Peggy McClure:
Our fourth (and final) WOW competition will be open for image submission starting November 1. Click HERE to see the rules for submitting your images. Remember that this is a fun competition in which the WOW factor of the image is more important than the technical aspects of the image. ALL members are encouraged to participate, and ALL members should vote on their favorites. The winners will be announced at the Year End meeting on December 5.

SPEAKER SERIES
Joe Klementovich – Almost Underwater, Creating Images Around Water and Sometimes Under It - October 17, 2024, 7:00 PM
And now for something completely different! As photographers living on or near the Puget Sound, Pacific Ocean and the Olympic Rain Forests, water is an integral element in many of our photographs.
Joe Klementovich, an adventure photographer based out of New Hampshire, will be our October presenter. Joe will teach us how to create images in and around water with and without using an underwater housing. He will discuss the practicalities of how to deal with gear in and around water and will take us on a ‘deep dive’ into examples of fly fishing, rafting and paddle boarding to show the versatility and creativity that water provides.
Field Trips and Workshops
Field Trip to Victoria, BC
From Peg Hanson:
Peg and Jim Hanson have offered to lead a joint field trip for both OCC and OPCC members to photograph holiday lights at The Butchart Gardens on Vancouver Island, BC on Dec. 18-19, 2024 (this is midweek). They will be visiting the gardens on the 18th.
Before anymore time is spent on planning, Peg would like to know if members are interested in this type of trip. The rest of the time would be spent exploring downtown Victoria near the ferry terminal.
Members would be responsible for their own travel arrangements and transportation to the gardens (or if group transportation is available, to a meeting spot which will be near 120 Kingston St, Victoria BC).
Adult tickets to the Gardens are ~$35 CAN pp (actual price not available at this time) and good garden etiquette is enforced. “SELFIE STICKS ARE NOT PERMITTED. Photography is welcome, but should not interfere with the enjoyment of other visitors. Do not block pathways with tripods.”

If this is a trip that you are seriously interested in and would like them to consider further planning, please let Peg know via email at jpegprofiles@comcast.net by October 15. Five OCC members have expressed interest so far.
If you are signing up for multiple members please include the number.

2024 NWCCC Conference and Print Salon
From Stephen Shoff:
The Northwest Council of Camera Clubs (NWCCC) Annual Conference is rapidly approaching. The Conference is being held on the afternoon of Saturday, Nov 9, the 2nd weekend in November. The conference format is returning to its roots as an in-person event, featuring a keynote speaker, the Print Salon exhibit, and awards ceremony for the Salons and the Traveling Image Salon (TIS) that we’ve been voting on throughout this year.
The entry deadline for the Digital and Print Salons has been extended to October 10th, so there is still time to submit your images and prints. Note: I will be attending and will be happy to bring any prints back.
Full details can be obtained on the NWCCC website by clicking HERE.
This year the conference is being held in Anacortes, a place we all like to go throughout the year. I hope to see you there on Nov. 9.
