In Focus: December 2023
This e-newsletter contains OPCC events, reminders, and news and will be published on the first Sunday of each month. Please send contributions to the newsletter to opcc4news@gmail.com. Contributions are due at noon on the Friday before publication, but if time permits, we will attempt to accommodate late contributions.
The operation of The Olympic Peaks Camera Club is totally reliant upon volunteers. Due to recent resignations, many of our current volunteers are performing multiple duties and are overworked. In order for us to continue to provide the services and events you have come to expect, WE NEED YOUR HELP. Any sort of assistance is most welcome.
Our most pressing current need is finding people to help with field trips. To help support field trips and planning, we need more volunteers and a permanent Field Trip Chair. Please consider helping us. To find out our other current needs and to volunteer to help, check out the Volunteer Page on our website by clicking HERE.

Year-end Meeting / Holiday Party
From Suzanne Anaya:
Our Year-end Meeting and Holiday Party will be held on Thursday, December 7 starting at 6:30 PM. We are again planning to make the party a potluck at St. Luke’s Church. Our Year-end Meeting will follow immediately after the party, beginning at approximately 7:15 PM, and anyone unable to attend in person will be able to join us via Zoom, using our standard Share Night Zoom code.
Please contact Suzanne Anaya as soon as possible at fuzfawn@aol.com to let her know if you are attending and what you will be able to bring. We need only one or two desserts, but we will need staples such as salads, potatoes (sweet or regular), vegetables, bread, and appetizers. The club will provide an entree (turkey or ham) and drinks. Suzanne will have coffee available.
For those of you whom we will not see at the party, we at OPCC would like to take this opportunity to wish you a very happy holiday season, and hope to see you again after the New Year for another great year of club activities.

Studio Bob Exhibit
From Kevin Talbot:
We had a great exhibit of 9 of our members' work at Studio Bob in Port Angeles as part of their "Second Weekend Art Event" for November. The members that participated included Suzanne Anaya, Lewis Bennet, Bruce Fryxell, Ed Hartman, Daniel Parrott, Sasha Parrott, Phil Renault, Kevin Talbot, and Susan White. We had more than 60 prints on display.
While we were in the planning stages, Studio Bob arranged a collaboration with the Olympic Peninsula Authors Group. They chose selected photos to inspire poems. The poets created 22 poems inspired by 18 of the photos during the Artist Opening weekend. It was a great collaboration. A big shout-out to Studio Bob for facilitating this.
We continued the collaboration with the Authors Group by combining their poems with our photos into a PDF booklet with the images and the poems together, which you can access by clicking HERE. Many thanks to Kevin Talbot for organizing the exhibit and for compiling the booklet.
Judging and Critiquing Workshop
From Peggy McClure:
“You have to be able to evaluate your own work and choose the best image. It is part of your job.” - Scott Kelby – Kelby One
Open to all members is a new workshop Judging your Own Images.” The OPCC Executive Committee is sponsoring the workshop and it is free to all active members. Dr. Christine Cook, the Competition Director for the Florida Council of Camera Clubs, will be conducting the workshop. The FCCC has a formal program for training and certifying judges for their member clubs that was designed by Dr. Cook.
The workshop will be conducted in January 2024 on two consecutive Saturdays (January 13th and 20th). The sessions will be held between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM. via Zoom and will be recorded. If you are unable to attend, they will be available on the website.
If you participate in the workshop, Dr. Cook has offered a follow-up option for anyone who attends or views both sessions. For a cost of $25, you will be able to send four (4) of your images with your own evaluation of your images. Dr. Cook will then review the images and provide feedback on your evaluations to help you hone your skills.

Tess Agesson
From Marian Bodart:
We have sad news to pass along. Tess Agesson our former club Treasurer passed away in November after a lengthy illness. Tess was a member of the club for a couple of years and quickly stepped into a leadership position as our Treasurer. You may have seen her at field trips and share nights. As a native to the Port Angeles area, she shared her inside knowledge of locally photogenic locations. We will miss her smile and light-hearted approach and send our condolences to her husband and family.
SPEAKER SERIES
The Speaker Series Nights will be returning in January. Watch for information about the exciting lineup of speakers that we have scheduled for next year.
FIELD TRIPS, WORKSHOPS, & MEET-UPS
From Kevin Talbot:
7 Cedars / Tribal Center Holiday Lights
We have tentatively planned a casual "meetup" type photo shoot for Friday, December 29th from 6 to 9 PM at the Seven Cedars casino and nearby Jamestown Tribal Center to enjoy the beautiful holiday lights and totems. It's on the club calendar. More details will follow.
King Tides Waves
January will have a King Tides from Jan 11th to the 15th. We have put this on the calendar as a placeholder, as it's very weather-dependent. Potential locations and tide charts for those spots are on the calendar entries. More details will follow as we get closer and see how the weather is shaping up.
